Farms are rarely static. Plants grow, seasons change, and even the most meticulously planned plantings have a way of evolving once put into practice. But at Emergent Abundance Farming Collective, the farm’s evolution has as much to do with the people tending it as the plants themselves.

There is a particular kind of creativity that comes from having limits. Abundance gives us options; limitations ask us to pay attention. They make us look more carefully at what we already have, what is around us, and what might become beautiful with a little ingenuity. In that way, working with less can become an exercise in noticing more.

The Peters have been growing these magnificent blooms for 40 years, learning all of the tips and tricks along the way. I loved talking to Clyde, learning about his favorite varieties, techniques to extend vase life, and some of the many challenges that he’s encountered over the years.
